Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin choose Imagineear to create inclusive, multi-language tours

Christ Church Cathedral is one of Ireland’s top visitor attractions and a place of pilgrimage, home to many important treasures, a magnificent nave and medieval crypt – reflecting part of the history of Ireland, both religious and political.

Christ Church Cathedral partnered with the Imagineear team to produce an audio guide, available in five languages, including a Cathedral highlights tour.

The tour brings to life the almost 1,000 years of history of this originally Viking church. Compelling audio content includes interviews with the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, personal stories from Sorcha and Vivian, bellringers at Christ Church and the intriguing tale of the theft, and recovery, of St Laurence’s heart from Detective Sean Campbell.

Inclusivity is always an important consideration during script development and UX design, and the team  used their expertise to create an audio descriptive tour, to help visitors with varying sight levels. A sign language guide has also been produced.

As well as telling the stories and history of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin’s oldest working structure, the tour includes a stunning recording of the well-known Christ Church Cathedral Choir singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, premiered in Dublin in 1742. Organ music and choral singing, recorded on site, is include throughout the tour, adding atmospheric effects to the narration.

Staff at the Cathedral were given access to, and fully trained in, TourBuilder Plus™,  Imagineear’s bespoke content management system, allowing them to access and update digital content themselves, delivered on Imagineear’s MPi™ and MediaPacker™ devices, and soon to be available via web app.

‘It has been such a pleasure to work with the team at Christ Church Cathedral, COVID restrictions presented some challenges during the production phase, but were able to adapt. We are utterly thrilled to have created  such a rich and engaging audio experience for Cathedral visitors’ says Clare Cooper-Hammond, Imagineear’s Managing Director. ‘Working with clients with inclusivity at the hear of our projects is a key focus for us.  The content is published  by our bespoke CMS, TourBuilder Plus™, which enables our clients to further update content themselves, ensures that sacred sites like Christ Church Dublin remain accessible and appealing to all’.
