Concerns over COVID-19 prompt more NHS Local Maternity Systems to join Mum & Baby app

Imagineear continues to create customised versions of the Mum & Baby app for additional NHS Local Maternity Systems (LMS), with Lancashire and South Cumbria as the latest to join a growing number now served. Mum & Baby gives women and their families NHS curated and clinically-evidenced guidance and information on pregnancy, birth and beyond and is personalised to include their due date, appointments, personal care plans and is available from the Apple and Google Play app stores.

The award-winning app has recently been amended to include up-to-the-minute, clinically-reliable advice for pregnant women and new mothers as soon as it is approved by Public Health England during the Coronavirus pandemic, and has been included in ORCHA’s Covid-19 Health App Library. The ability to disseminate COVID-19 maternity updates so quickly was the key factor in Lancashire and South Cumbria LMS’ decision to licence the app so quickly.

“This LMS made a quick decision to take a licence for Mum & Baby for women in their area because they saw the benefits of being able to communicate important COVID-19 specific messages around pregnancy, infant feeding, maternity appointments, no home births and birth partners not able to accompany women in labour.” said Julia laflin, Head of Healthcare at Imagineear.

This adaptation was developed by Imagineear’s Healthcare team in just 5 weeks and is uniquely tailored to Lancashire and South Cumbria LMS’ needs. It will allow local users to see profiles of all maternity units in their area including how far away it is, self-referral links and transport information, and, once a maternity unit is selected, essential contacts and other local information such as birth registration, children’s centres, volunteering, local research projects and how to donate to the charities of their local NHS hospital trust will surface in the app.

The Lancashire and South Cumbria LMS includes four NHS Trusts with a total of nine maternity units delivering approximately 18,000 births per year.
