Grote Kerk Dordrecht Gives Visitors MPi Tour

The magnificent medieval Grote Kerk Dordrecht has commissioned Imagineear to create a multimedia visitor guide of the church, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of the Synod of Dordrecht. The Synod was an international church assembly which has been immensely influential on Protestant thinking till today.

The tour has been narrated in Dutch by famous Dutch actor, Gijs Scholten van Aschat while the script was written by one of the church’s knowledgeable guides. The 50 minute tour, on Imagineear’s own new MediaPacker Interactive™ (MPi™) device, features a scene-setting video welcome from the church’s Minister and the Mayor of Dordrecht.

Highlights of this tour include the beautiful, swelling sound of the Grote Kerk’s two organs, both famed in organ-loving circles, and played by the church’s organist to give visitors an engrossing and immersive experience within this sacred space.  Another special inclusion is a video interview with contemporary Dutch artist Henk Helmantel, whose paintings are included in a special exhibition opening on 24th November and who is well-known for his work on church interiors and his still lifes.

Also known as the Church of Our Lady, which was its name before the Reformation, it has a strong supporting group – The Friends of the Grote Kerk Dordrecht, who initiated and financed the multimedia tour.

“It has been a great pleasure to work on this project with all volunteers from the Church, who are passionate about the heritage and the story,” said Eleonore Heijboer, a founder of Imagineear and its Creative Director. “This type of multimedia experience lends itself well to this atmospheric setting with the visitor able to experience the church’s powerful organ music resounding in the surrounding beauty of the church’s impressive architecture.”
