Dulwich Picture Gallery has partnered with imagineear to offer visitors mediaPacker™ tours to their permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
Embarking upon its third century, the picture collection created initially by Sir Francis Bourgeois for King Stanislaus of Poland and bequeathed to Dulwich College in 1811, will be interpreted for the first time on imagineear’s revolutionary multimedia guides. Dulwich Picture Gallery chose the mediaPacker™ by imagineear because it is so intuitive for the visitor to use, and so simple for onsite staff to operate. Visitors will be able to explore both the permanent and temporary exhibitions with the new multimedia guides and learn more about the artists and works on display. imagineear has built the tour interface design based on initial content for the collections produced by staff at the gallery.
The new guides were launched on February 16th with introductions to key works from the gallery’s permanent collection as well as the current temporary exhibitions entitled ‘Ragamala Paintings from India: Poetry, Passion, Song’ and ‘Van Dyck in Sicily’.
The mediaPacker™ answered an urgent need for a handheld player optimised for the visitor experience, at a reasonable pricepoint, and which could operate seamlessly with pre-existing as well as new content. The project represents an equally exciting development for imagineear and the mediaPacker™. The mediaPacker™ is on hand to offer bespoke content and learning to visitors to another highly prestigious London gallery. But as exciting for imagineear is the long-term partnership with an in-house content team committed to exploring together the ways in which the mediaPacker™ and mobile technologies can contribute to the gallery’s outreach and educational work.
Andrew Nugée, imagineear’s CEO, commented:
It is a great honour for imagineear to be working closely with one of the leading galleries in London. We welcome the Dulwich Picture Gallery’s commitment to mobile interpretation, and to helping their visitors learn and enjoy more from their visit. All of us at imagineear look forward to playing a key part in this project, and to developing our partnership with the Dulwich Picture Gallery over the coming months.

Visitors to the largest paying monument in the world, the Eiffel Tower, benefit from a new tour, courtesy of their iPhone and imagineear, available now in French or English at €2.99.
2.5 million rivets; 60 tonnes of paint covering a quarter of a million square metres. The sheer scale of the Eiffel Tower is impressive even today. The temporary structure thrown up for the Parisian World Fair in 1889 has witnessed much drama from its position at the centre of Parisian life, standing impassive above two world wars before settling into its role as tourist attraction and telecoms tower. It has sparked controversy, and lent its profile to foolhardy exploits. In April 1984, a British couple parachuted off the Tower together, landing without a hitch – but equally without permission – in the Champ-de-Mars garden below.
The official iPhone app tells, in compelling audio-visual detail, of the driving passion of Gustav Eiffel, the resistance from the arts communities in Paris to the intruder in their midst, and its eventual acceptance not just as an iconic structure but as the very symbol of Paris, backdrop to feats of folly and prowess alike. As well as a themed tour of 30 audio-visual stops, an offline 360 degree day and night panorama with a 20x zoom, highlights in English and French over 60 sites visible from the Tower.
Eleonore Heijboer, imagineear’s Creative Director, commented on the scale of the project:
Familiar to all of us, instantly recognisable, copied incessantly, we think we know the Eiffel Tower. Yet the story we uncovered is so much vaster, so multi-faceted, so intriguing. It has been a privilege to work on such a monument.
Andrew Nugée, Chief Executive, added:
The Eiffel Tower project was another successful collaboration with Paris-based app developer, smArtapps, with whom we look forward to developing more projects in France and elsewhere.

imagineear Ltd announced today the launch of their Jaffa City audio tour, telling the story in multiple languages for visitors to the Mediterranean’s oldest continuously functioning port city.
The Old Jaffa Development Company has teamed up with imagineear to produce multilingual audio tours to guide visitors for a unique stroll through more than 4,000 years of turbulent history. A city occupied by the Egyptians, the Israelites, the Greeks and Romans, the Mamelukes, French Crusaders and Ottomans, as well as the British, the fascinating and turbulent history of Jaffa is inseparable from that of the Middle East as a whole. The tour takes the visitor on a fascinating journey through the city, for thousands of years serving as the gateway to Palestine and Israel. Using imagineear’s APpro™ player and an illustrated map, visitors are offered 11 "stop and listen" points of interest from Kedumim Square and the Port of Jaffa to The House of Simon the Tanner and The Flea Market. The tour is produced in English, Hebrew and Russian with German, Spanish and French added in early 2012.
Ziv Kushnir, Commercial Director of imagineear commented:
The tour takes us on a historical journey through the 400 streets and alleyways of Jaffa. The city has so much to offer, and so many great stories to tell: of Napoleon’s visit in 1799, of the oldest synagogue in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, the home and office of the Ottoman Governor and the port by which King Solomon imported Cedars from Lebanon in order to construct his temple.

For the first time, visitors to the Merseyside Maritime Museum’s new exhibition in 2012, titled Titanic and Liverpool: The Untold Story will be able to explore the collection with an interactive multimedia guide from imagineear.
Told from the perspective of key personalities in the drama, the exhibition will give a unique insight into events surrounding the launch of Titanic, the voyage, the sinking and its aftermath.
Visitors to the Merseyside Maritime Museum will use mediaPacker™ players from imagineear, who have partnered with National Museums Liverpool for this exhibition, to introduce rich media guides to the Museum for the first time.
The guides will help visitors explore the exhibition featuring previously unseen collections of international significance, including material from Merseyside Maritime Museum's extensive archives. Particular highlights for visitors will include the chance to see the only known surviving Titanic first class ticket, real letters from passengers, archival images of crew survivors returning to Liverpool, and telegrams from the rescue ship, Carpathia.
The multimedia guides will also feature the museum's existing permanent gallery, the hugely popular Titanic, Lusitania and the Forgotten Empress, to fully immerse visitors in this unique piece of Merseyside’s history.
Along the way visitors will be introduced to key figures in the story of Liverpool and Titanic including;
Dr Alan Scarth, exhibition curator and author of Titanic and Liverpool observes of the exhibition;
Not only was the Titanic's sinking a major world event, the tragedy was a bitter blow to the port and the people of Liverpool. The new exhibition lifts the lid on this largely-overlooked turmoil in the wake of the sinking, which resounds to this day.
Andrew Nugée, imagineear’s CEO commented;
We have been fortunate to work on a range of projects around the world coinciding with the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, but this exhibition is truly unique. The story of the ship and its connection to Liverpool is no less real for being largely untold. At imagineear we are excited to use our technology and expertise to help set the record straight. At the same time, we are honoured to have this opportunity to support the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the National Museums Liverpool.

On the 21st November Arsenal FC launches their new interactive, multimedia stadium tour, which takes the Emirates Stadium into the premier league of London visitor attractions. For the first time visitors have incredible archive footage, interviews with the manager and team, and unique access behind the scenes, all in the palm of their hands – and all in 7 languages.
Arsenal selected imagineear’s mediaPacker™ player platform, which uses a wide-range of media to immerse visitors fully in the club’s story, and in the experience of playing at the Emirates stadium.
The new tour gives Arsenal fans a fantastic opportunity to explore their club’s home. From archive footage and commentary, to unique interviews with players about what it means to play at Emirates, and the chance to access areas of the stadium not open at any other time – from the Directors Box to the interview rooms and media centre. A real highlight is the long walk from the home dressing room through the tunnel to the pitch, within an immersive crowd soundscape. The visitor absorbs the excitement and tension, as the players put into words what it means to them to walk out for Arsenal.
Andrew Nugee, imagineear CEO commented:
Emirates is a world-class football ground but it is so much more than that. Through the new stadium tour we want to enthral visitors with the story of the club, the stadium, and the people who make it what it is – Arsène Wenger, superstar players and people behind the scenes you never normally see. That’s a story that deserves to be told. At imagineear we relish the chance to use our technology, our creative energy and our international experience to help ensure that as London welcomes the sporting world in 2012 we have a truly world-class sporting attraction to offer them.

12 Nov 2011, Singapore
History will be made in Singapore at the end of year as the city plays host to the largest art exhibition it has ever mounted. A Moving Masterpiece: The Song Dynasty As Living Art will take place at Singapore EXPO Hall from Dec 7, 2011 to Feb 6, 2012. imagineear is proud to have been chosen as the handheld media and only UK partner that will offer an audio-visual interpretation of the spectacle in four languages and three Chinese dialects.
The Moving Masterpiece exhibition will show as its centrepiece the 128 m by 6.5m animated reproduction of Qing Ming Shang He Tu, which was the highlight of the China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. The digital painting, which features over a thousand moving and talking characters, has so far been seen by over 10 million people in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei and Tai-Chung.
Singaporeans will now be able to experience this historic work of art. An immersive and total cultural experience, it is expected to draw some 800,000 visitors over the period, both locally and from around the region, and will be the largest ever art exhibition mounted in Singapore.
In another first for Singapore, A Moving Masterpiece: The Song Dynasty As Living Art will also offer an audio-visual guide to visitors in English, Malay, Japanese and Mandarin, as well as in the Chinese dialects of Cantonese, Hokkien and Teochew.
Mr Edmund Chua, Managing Director of Singapore Huading, which has brought the exhibition to Singapore, says:
Qing Ming Shang He Tu is a landmark Chinese work of art which not many have seen. As we now have the privilege of showcasing the modern digital version, we feel it is only right to make sure that as many people as possible get to appreciate it, and this includes the elderly Chinese who may not be familiar with Mandarin. We are delighted to be working with imagineear to provide both technology platform, script, wall labels, translations and productions – in short to have entrusted to imagineear the front line interpretation of this priceless work.
Andrew Nugée, Chief Executive of imagineear is wholly committed to the ambitious aims of this project:
imagineear is honoured to have been selected to enhance the experience of so many visitors to the digital exhibition in their own preferred language. We have a strong and highly experienced team both locally and internationally which is focussed on doing justice to this wonderful and captivating work of art.
The creators of the digital version of Qing Ming Shang He Tu, which is 30 times larger than the original, are Crystal CG Shanghai, one of China’s leading digital technology companies. They took almost two years to complete the project. Crystal CG Shanghai’s director, Yu Zheng, says:
It was a mind-blowing experience to re-create this work of art, which every Chinese person is familiar with. We are very proud of the final product as it brings a whole new dimension to appreciating the original. It also makes the artwork relevant to a new generation of younger tech-savvy audiences.
Mr Aloysius Arlando, Chief Executive Officer of Singex, which is mounting the exhibition in Singapore adds:
Having been inspired by how the Chinese masterpiece has come alive with this technology, Singex is proud to be able to share the experience with Singaporeans. The show at Singapore EXPO promises to capture the imagination of all visitors by immersing them into a brilliant world of colour, sound, light and movement.
Qing Ming Shang He Tu is a panoramic 5.3m scroll painting by Song Dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan (1085–1145). It captures the daily life of people from the Song period at the capital, Bianjing, today's Kaifeng, and celebrates the festive spirit and worldly commotion at the Qingming Festival. The painting has been treasured for a millennium in China. It is housed in the Forbidden City, and rarely seen in person.
The Moving Masterpiece digital exhibition animates and presents 1,068 characters in minute detail in a timed show covering both day and night during the festival. The digital painting is 30 times larger than the original, measuring 128 metres in length and 6.5 metres in height. It is the unique marriage of 21st century technology with ancient artistry that brings Zhang Zeduan’s portrait to life.
The Moving Masterpiece was the star attraction in the Chinese pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. Since then it has been displayed in Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei and Tai Chung, and been seen by over 10 million people. In December it will be displayed in Singapore.

For the first time in Southeast Asia, the blockbuster Titanic Artefact Exhibition opens at ArtScience Museum Singapore in October 2011, accompanied by a wholly new audio narrative provided by leading local interpretation company, imagineear.
A Century after RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic, just two hours and 40 minutes after striking an iceberg, and with a loss of more than two thirds of the passengers and crew, the story has lost none of its power to shock. The arrival of the long-running artefacts exhibition in Singapore brings the raw emotion of Titanic’s infamous maiden voyage, aided by an audio narrative from imagineear.
The exhibition narrative tells the human stories behind the tragedy of the Titanic – the world’s largest, ‘practically unsinkable’ passenger vessel– illustrated by over 250 artefacts recovered from almost four kilometres beneath the freezing North Atlantic. With over 25 million tickets sold worldwide to date, fascination with the Titanic shows no sign of waning. But imagineear’s Chief Executive, Andrew Nugée, felt that a whole new approach to the narrative was necessary:
This is a story, the cold facts of which are well known, and indeed have passed into legend. We felt that a new audience in Singapore deserved a fresh approach to the human stories, to provide the small domestic detail of the multiple personal tragedies, as well as the broader importance of the largest such peacetime disaster of the day.
Nine galleries will lead visitors through the ship’s conception, construction and launch, as well as following her passengers and crew through the sailing, life on board, the iceberg and the sinking a century ago. The exhibition also tells the fascinating and evolving story of the discovery of the wreck, and the recovery and preservation of its artefacts.
Tom Zaller, Museum Director, ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, said:
Titanic is such an iconic ship with such a powerful story to tell that we’re proud to present Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition at such an equally iconic venue. For the first time in Singapore and Southeast Asia, visitors will travel back in time to relive Titanic’s majestic maiden voyage and experience the drama that unfolded as the world’s largest ship sank to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.
To understand the impact of Titanic in Singapore, a new gallery named “Singapore 1912” will be dedicated to local connections. Visitors will learn how the Titanic tragedy strongly resonated in Singapore. Images of Singapore in the early 1900s will be displayed alongside local newspaper articles that covered the disaster at the time, alongside archaeological finds from the period.
“ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is committed to bringing blockbuster exhibitions to Singapore that are accessible to people of all ages and interests.
Added Mr Zaller.
With Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition, we’ve taken this one step further and enhanced its relevance to Singaporeans by demonstrating the impact of global developments here, even in the early 20th Century.”

Bolton Castle becomes the latest heritage site to join the innovative in2handheld scheme created by imagineear, and will launch multimedia guides onsite in 2012.
Bolton Castle will deploy the mediaPacker™ technology in use at major attractions around the world – from the Taj Mahal, to the Beatles Story, the Emirates stadium and Liverpool FC. The Castle staff will also benefit from a programme of training and support so they can develop the guide both creatively and commercially over the coming year.
Sometimes unfairly characterised as for major attractions alone, the in2handheld scheme brings the latest mobile multimedia interpretation firmly within the reach of smaller and specialist sites. in2handheld allows these sites to build and modify their own tour, using the latest technology to help bring the visit alive for visitors, while providing an additional revenue stream at the same time.
Katie Boggis, General Manager of Bolton Castle, said:
This is a really exciting project for the Castle. We look forward to the training, and to the process of introducing audio visual guides for our visitors.
Andrew Nugée, imagineear’s CEO, added:
Our objective with in2handheld is to provide a flexible and intuitive hardware and software platform that engages the latent creativity of a whole new group of organisations. Whether an artist at London’s Ben Uri Gallery, who uses the mediaPacker to create a fantasy audio history in London, or the striking soundscapes delivered through the mediaPacker at POSKOD in Singapore, it is exciting for us to watch the project develop, and we look forward to seeing visitors engage with the history of this beautiful mediaeval Castle.
Bolton is one of the country's best preserved mediaeval castles, situated in the heart of Wensleydale, and with stunning views over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Castle has never been sold and remains in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, direct descendant of Sir Richard le Scrope, who completed it in 1399. Bolton Castle is a member of the Historic Houses Association.
Visitors to the Castle often comment on the intimacy of the site, the sense that the historical characters have just walked out. The new guides will deepen this connection, using images, audio and video to tell the story of the Castle, its inhabitants over the generations, and its past. Like so many heritage sites, access can be a real issue. The mediaPacker guides will also be used to show areas of the building some visitors are unable otherwise to explore fully.

imagineear ran a packed session at the GEM 2011 conference on the Young Interpretation project, using new technology to give young people the tools to interpret heritage on their own terms.
Young Interpretation is a joint project between imagineear and Redfront exploring culture and heritage through the eyes and ears of young people. Nick Sherrard from imagineear together with Phillippa Rose and Simon Gough from Redfront have worked on a range of projects detailed on the project blog: www.younginterpretation.com.
imagineear were invited to run a breakout session in Norfolk’s Dunston Hall for delegates addressing the question ‘what did Young People ever do for us?’ and used projects completed this year with Devon Museums as case studies for the sector to learn from. Using mediaPacker and audioPorter players, alongside genuine engagement with young people, the projects provided a powerful learning experience for both young people and the museums involved.
Nick Sherrard of imagineear noted:
It was fantastic to be invited to GEM’s 2011 conference and to showcase the creativity of young people in Devon over the last year. Beyond the Young Interpretation project itself, so much is now possible through mobile technologies it is hugely exciting to share success stories and hopefully spark ideas for new projects too.

On Sunday 4th September the Signs for Sounds app, produced by the Harley Gallery and imagineear, launched for users around the world to explore the craft of letter-forming from traditional calligraphy, to contemporary font design, to street art.
The exhibition showcases the work of twelve independent artists, and provides a rare opportunity for visitors to examine the diversity of the letter-form and the relationships between art, communication and design. Across different media, the exhibition sees the artist’s and designer’s present letters, writing and words in different contexts. Gary Breeze's stone-carvings compare Roman abbreviations with today's shortened 'txt-spk'. In contrast, Ina Saltz's work focuses on word-based tattoos inked upon the skin. At the same time, visitors can interact with virtual typography in the gallery as they move letters and words on touchscreen monitors.
Alongside the first stop on the tour, at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, the Harley Gallery and imagineear have published a unique iPad app. The exhibition uses the iPad app, featuring a font commissioned for the exhibition by Jeremy Tankard, both as an in-gallery interactive and as a tool to help users explore the collection on their own device.
Nick Sherrard, imagineear’s UK Business Development Manager, and responsible for the Signs for Sounds app, said:
It has been a delight to work with the team to build the app for Signs for Sounds. The exhibition links the ancient and modern, and the app links the best elements of a traditional exhibition catalogue with the potential of the new technology.
Signs for Sounds launched at the acclaimed exhibition space, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, on Friday 16th September with a live performance of light calligraphy by Julien Breton. You can find further information on the artists through short films made for the exhibition including an interview with exhibiting artist Timothy Donaldson and a film on the craft of letter cutting.
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, in Bovey Travey, is one of the UK’s leading centres for contemporary craft and design, as well as a leading charity for craft education. The location will prove a fascinating context in which to launch the tour of the Harley Gallery’s exhibition as it transfers around England.

Since its launch, imagineear’s mediaPacker has attracted attention from multiple venues on three continents, ranging from the Taj Mahal in India and the five venues of the Singapore Biennale to local museums, arthouse projects, and major football clubs. A year after its launch, imagineear is releasing a v2 upgraded player, which builds on the strength of the original concept.
Asked about the appeal of the player he designed, imagineear’s Tech Director, Eric van der Hoeven explains that it is all about simplicity and control.
We wanted to put as much control in the hands of the user, our client, as possible.
He says.
We wanted to make it really easy to change and update content; and to combine real flexibility in tour design with instant playback. Our belief is that this immediacy and flexibility fosters creativity, and value.
As an example of this, earlier this year an artist at the Ben Uri Gallery in London was able to build a tour singlehandedly in one afternoon using the mediaPacker. These principles guided Eric’s hardware design as well:
We made the player as easy as possible for the client to maintain, rather than have to return it to us, which involves cost, transport and delay.
These points, taken with a great value pricepoint, have ensured the mediaPacker’s appeal as a stand-out value mobile tour product.
While staying true to the original design criteria, the revised mediaPacker v2 player has incorporated client feedback to refine the user experience. Navigation is easier, with a firmer keypad and larger buttons. The graphics on the screen have been improved. And the player now ships with a wide variety of exchangeable covers to suit almost any colour scheme.
We built many more mediaPacker players in 2011 than we originally anticipated, says Eric. This has allowed us to get down the learning curve faster, to everyone’s benefit. It looks like another busy year ahead.

imagineear is delighted to sponsor the launch of POSKOD.SG Singapore’s SOUNDSCAPING event. Guests at the historical Goodman Arts Centre were able to follow a curated mixtape by artist Rizman Putra on imagineear’s mediaPacker, the media player that unlocks the cultural world.
In a unique creative partnership, imagineear and POSKOD.SG collaborated to bring fresh location-aware music mixes to a young Singaporean audience. POSKOD.SG, an online magazine about life in Singapore, publishes SOUNDSCAPING, sound tracks from Singapore with neighbourhood-based mix tapes. Curators devise musical selections and tour neighbourhoods to assess how music affects place, and vice versa.
imagineear creates a unique handheld audio visual media player, the mediaPacker, which is ideal for delivering the innovative sounds of Singapore to POSKOD.SG’s audience. At this launch event, guests tuned into historical Goodman Arts Centre with a curated mix by artist Rizman Putra inspired by the artist’s long association with the site, and delivered on the mediaPacker. The soundtrack was also accompanied by an audio commentary, teasing out the site's history, both personal and public.
imagineear has been extremely flexible, generous, hardworking and constructive in helping us get this first for Singapore off the ground.
Commented Dan Koh, Editor of POSKOD.SG.
The reason we love the mediaPacker is that it allows us to edit the content, and immediately see the changes go live - no waiting, no hassle, so intuitive.
We are delighted to have been involved with this initiative from the Goodman Arts Centre, and we truly believe that their cultural contribution to Singapore will last.
Responded Andrew Jeffery, Regional Director for imagineear Singapore

‘Elvis and Us’ opens at The Beatles Story Pier Head in Liverpool in October 2011, and explores how the Fab Four were influenced by the King. Beyond the exhibits themselves, visitors to the groundbreaking exhibition will be offered an interactive multimedia guide bringing Elvis, and his four very special Liverpudlian fans, alive in sound and vision.
Using archive film and audio, as well as new interviews with key figures including Pete Best, the Beatles’ original drummer, the guide will give the visitor a unique insight into the relationship between Elvis and Liverpool’s favourite sons – including their remarkable pilgrimage to his Bel-Air home in 1965 to meet the King in person.
The guide will be produced by London-based imagineear whose handheld multimedia system, the mediaPacker™, is already in use in some of the world’s leading visitor attractions including the Taj Mahal and the Singapore Biennale.
Beatles Story Managing Director, Jerry Goldman, commented:
The Beatles Story experience gives visitors a magical mystery tour through the story of how four young lads from Liverpool became the greatest band of all time. ‘Elvis and Us’ is a crucial chapter in that tale and helps the visitor learn more about what inspired the Fab Four. For us too, these multimedia guides are an important development, as we embrace new technology to mark the Beatles Story out as a world-class attraction for Liverpool.
imagineear’s Ziv Kushnir, Commercial Director, added:
This project is a hugely exciting chance to bring alive a story of two giant musical icons – Elvis and the Beatles. At the same time it will be a showcase for how mobile multimedia can help visitor attractions provide powerful, engaging, multi-lingual experiences for families, adult guests and groups alike.”
Elvis and Us opens to the public on October 4th 2011.

We offer stand-out value for money, use our experience to innovate, and create additional revenue streams from rental and retail models, both on- and off-site. The LFC Museum guide is ‘random access’ meaning the visitor can choose which objects they want to know more about, rather than follow a guide in a linear way. It’s also ‘layered’ which means that they can access additional content if they wish. So the visitor has complete control of the order, speed and depth of their tour.
The Beatles Story is the world's leading Beatles-themed museum and visitor attraction and is based in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. The attraction was established in 1988, opening in the newly developed Albert Dock in May 1990.
2008 saw the Beatles Story triple in size from 8,000sq ft to 23,000sq ft to include the interactive Discovery Zone, special exhibition and Going Solo areas, an expanded Fab4Store and online shop and Starbucks Coffeehouse. The following year, the Beatles Story expanded into a second site, with the Beatles Story Pier Head housed at the new Ferry Terminal building in front of Liverpool’s iconic Three Graces.

For the first time, the Harley Gallery will offer visitors to the Signs for Sounds exhibition a content rich iPad app. Together with imagineear the Gallery will take the exhibition catalogue into the 21st Century.
Signs for Sounds tours to five galleries around the country, and explores the letterform through the work of twelve independent artists. It provides the visitor with a unique chance to examine an area of design - from calligraphy through to typeface - we all interact with as a part of everyday life, perhaps today more than ever.
The app will be available inside the exhibition space itself – as visitors use it to find out more about the artists and their work. At the same time visitors will be able to download the app, and explore the works at home, on their own device through the app store. Indeed the app will be available to users interested in the subject from all over the world, and open up access to the exhibition and the artists’ work to them.
Nick Sherrard from imagineear commented:
This will be a hugely exciting project to develop. The app itself will be a great example of what an app can bring to an exhibition – both in adding to the visitor’s engagement whilst they are in the gallery, as well as after they leave and continue to explore its themes.
The exhibition opens at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Devon on the 19th September, and at the Harley Gallery itself on the 18th February 2012.

Visitors to the upcoming exhibition at the Frans Hals Museum, Celebrating in the Golden Age, will be able to explore the circa 45 masterpieces of the Dutch Golden Age on show with their own audio visual guide in Dutch and English, alongside a special kids tour in Dutch.
The exhibition in Haarlem’s famous museum opens in November 2011, and runs for 6 months. The works included are drawn from the Museum’s own renowned collection, as well as other leading national and international institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum (New York) and the Gemäldegalerie (Berlin).
Celebrating in the Golden Age showcases a highly popular subject in seventeenth-century art. Painters like Jan Steen and Frans Hals portrayed merry-making folk and lively companies, from peasant fairs and carnival celebrations to lavish al fresco parties, processions and civic guard banquets.
imagineear will use multimedia technology and expertly crafted content to bring the stories of the artwork, and artists who created them, to life. With guides in Dutch and English, as well as a Kids Tour, the audio-visual guides will play a key role in engaging 21st Century visitors in the wonders of the Dutch Golden Age.

For the first time since Liverpool Football Club first played at Anfield in 1892, the club’s proud and unique history will be brought to life in a multilingual audio-visual tour of the club museum, created for the Kop by specialist full-service audio tour company, imagineear.
The Museum at Liverpool FC tells the unique story of a unique club. It’s a history that doesn’t live in books, but in memories and emotions. But the people who visit don’t just want to hear the story – they already feel a part of the story. The endless names of Liverpool greats – Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish, Keegan, Hansen, Gerrard – aren’t just figures to learn about; the fans worship them as heroes, and talk about them as friends.
The objects in the museum are part of a living history so the imagineear guide is there not just to give information, but to reveal the passion, the memories, the glory – and the humour – that together make up one of the world’s most famous and loved clubs.
With imagineear’s mediaPacker™ player, visitors will view photographs, video and film that will bring the museum items to life. They won’t just see the object, but hear what it means to the Liverpool legend who brought it home. They’ll see the magnificent European Cups in the museum – and the goals that won them. They’ll see King Kenny’s shirt – and Dalglish playing in it. They’ll see Bill Shankly’s training sweater – and hear the passion as he talks about his beloved Liverpool. The guide isn’t simply about learning – it’s about tapping into memories, sharing stories and evoking emotion. The mediaPacker technology is the perfect tool to release the passion within the piece – and to create an inspirational experience for the visitor.
Ziv Kushnir, Commercial Director of imagineear, cannot wait for the tour to go live:
It is a huge honour and a privilege to work with such depth of passion at the heart of today’s game. Liverpool is one of the most recognisable football brands in the world. We are delighted to be able to tell the club’s fascinating stories to fans and visitors in a new way and in their own language.
Tom Cassidy, Commercial Tourism Manager adds:
Every object in the museum has a unique history and a place in the legend of Anfield. The multimedia tour will help bring these to life in an engaging way. We look forward to working with imagineear on this important project.

To complement the recently launched CultureKey audiotour app of Jerusalem – a smartphone app tour that takes you to the essential sites of the Old City of Jerusalem – imagineear has published the first ever companion audio app from atop the walls of the city.
Standing twelve metres high and four kilometres long is the wall of Jerusalem, built by Suleiman the Magnificent in the mid-16th Century. Alongside imagineear’s current tour of the Old City, CultureKey Jerusalem, we now offer visitors to the Old City the first ever companion guided cultural walk along the walls, and the opportunity to hear the historical and contemporary stories surrounding this holy city.
The Walk of the Walls multimedia guide begins above Jaffa gate and walks a thousand metres around one quarter of the ancient walls to end at the majestic Damascus gate in the North. View the sombre grey roof of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Hear stories of the trauma of the separation of the city – and see where they took place. Use the offline map to guide yourself by audio alone and, once you stop for a deserved rest at the end of your walk, take the opportunity to read the text, follow relevant links further and review the library of high quality images. Keep the tour as a souvenir of your stay in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem Walk of the Walls is available on the iTunes app store for download here.

Ben Uri Museum has chosen imagineear as their partner to offer handheld interpretation to their visitors for the first time in a ground-breaking scheme called in2handheld.
Almost a century old, the Ben Uri Museum, named after the craftsman who built the Ark of the Covenant, is Europe’s only Jewish Museum dedicated to Modern and Contemporary art as part of its proud cultural heritage. Ben Uri’s renowned permanent collection is the largest of its kind in the world.
Better known as ‘The Art Museum for Everyone’ Ben Uri is positioned in the heart of the mainstream and communicates the breadth and depth of its unique collection through scholarly exhibition and learning programmes. Its audience is multi-cultural and growing, local, national and international and operates regularly across England, Europe and North America.
Despite well understanding the value of interpretation tools, until now the museum has not been able to support the level of investment and capital outlay traditionally required. But thanks to an innovative scheme from imagineear, the in2handheld programme, Ben Uri will now be able to offer cutting edge audio-visual content to significantly enhance their visitors’ experience.
The in2handheld programme offers museums and galleries a turnkey multimedia guide solution, including mediaPacker™ players, charging stations, headphones, and general and specific training and learning tools, together with content support and advisory, but all paid for by a single simple monthly payment - operating in the same way as a cell phone contract. From a creative point of view, the beauty of the mediaPacker™ is that, although imagineear offers content training and help where requested, both pre-existing and purpose-built content can be arranged simply and powerfully on the player by the curatorial staff themselves. They remain in complete control.
David Glaser, Co-Chairman of the Ben Uri, explained:
We are very much ‘visitor led’ and focussed on constantly engaging and improving our visitor experience. Imagineear talks our language. We have been searching for some time for the right answer and have been very impressed by the range of options and the flexible approach offered by imagineear. The in2handheld programme allows us to finance a growing interpretation programme out of running costs. The system is powerful and elegantly simple to use.
Nick Sherrard, responsible for the in2handheld programme at imagineear, added:
We are happy that the in2handheld programme enables us to work with smaller or specialist museums like the Ben Uri. Their stories have just as much right to be heard, and in2handheld is helping us help these specialist museums tell them.

The gallery and museum is an educational institution dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of all whom it impacts. It embraces a new broad and fully inclusive role for museums in today’s society and addresses contemporary issues through art and its social history. imagineear ltd, leading interpreters of the cultural world, is delighted to announce a wide-ranging collaboration with smArtapps, the Paris-based leader in mobile app delivery solutions.
The problem is as old as apps themselves. The app at the museum may be free, but downloading it over the 3G network can cost an arm and a leg. But free Wi-Fi hotspots aren’t a great answer either – they get clogged up when people realise they can piggy back on the network to surf the web, update their facebook profile, catch up on last week’s TV, etc, which slows the network, often to a standstill.
smArtaccess, the Wi-Fi delivery solution from smArtapps, solves this problem by offering visitors free access to the app - but only the app in question. It requires no password, but cleverly blocks access to e-mail, youtube, and any other internet distractions. It even blocks access to other apps, which means the entire network bandwidth is put to work downloading the museum app safely. As a result, smArtaccess download speeds are up to five times faster than classical Wi-Fi hotspots. And last but not least, it collects valuable usage data that can be shared with the museum, to help them optimise app or exhibit design.
Under terms of the collaboration between imagineear and smArtapps, imagineear will offer smArtapps standard app solutions, including the award-winning e-Album for iPad, and smArtapps will promote imagineear content expertise.
Rémi Carlioz, Head of New Media at imagineear says
smArtapps is a very impressive young and dynamic company which has been able not only to develop premium apps and delivery solutions, but also to become very quickly a trusted partner to clients such as the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, the Musée du quai Branly, the Jacquemart-André Museum, the Château de Chantilly, Louis Vuitton, etc. We are very confident that on top of our current offer, smArtapps will allow us to bypass traditional constraints on personal mobile, cost to roam and download, slow download times and installation challenges.
Andrew Nugée, imagineear CEO, added
We look forward to working with smArtapps, whose solutions will help our clients reach more visitors, more efficiently, with a wider array of content solutions. We are proud of and excited by this new venture.
Frédéric Durand, Founder of smArtapps, says
We are thrilled to start this partnership with imagineear and to combine our mutual expertise to set new standards in cultural interpretation. Working with the highly experienced and motivated imagineear team will allow smArtapps dramatically to improve its innovative solutions and to provide them to cultural institutions worldwide.
imagineear is a young and dynamic full service interpretation company with one of the most experienced teams in the business. smArtapps provides cultural interpretation solutions for mobile devices (iPhone & Android audioguides, iPad exhibition albums, geo-localised tour guides, cultural portals, ...) as well as on-site innovative streaming systems. We are head-quartered in Paris.
Our daily obsession is simply to design the best user experience ever. We strongly believe that technology is a tool to achieve this goal, never the starting point.

Singapore’s National Heritage Board, the NHB, chooses imagineear to interpret the famous Balestier Trail.
Botanist, farmer and America’s first Consul to Singapore in the middle years of the 19th century, Joseph Balestier acquired a 1,000 acre sugar plantation and bequeathed his name to the district around Balestier Road today. The Balestier heritage walking trail sets out from the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH), and will now bring the famous shophouses to life with an imagineear walking tour.
The Balestier mediaPacker™ multimedia handheld guide is the first to be developed for a heritage trail in Singapore, and the NHB turned to experts in cultural interpretation, imagineear, to script and produce the multimedia tour and handheld delivery technology alike.
Additional rich media content for the trail took about six months to complete, and was contributed by the SYSNMH, NHB’s Education and Outreach Division, National Archives of Singapore and students from Hwa Chong Institution.
Andrew Jeffery, Regional Director in Singapore for imagineear, commented:
It has been a pleasure collaborating on such an exciting programme with the NHB, and to bring handheld media guides to the Balestier Trail for the first time. They will provide a historical context, enhance the visit, and indicate hidden gems along the route.
The Balestier mediaPacker™ will be publicly available to visitors of SYSNMH when it re-opens in October 2011, and will launch in a Mandarin version in December 2011.

Young Interpretation is a joint project, launching in April 2011, between imagineear and Redfront, showcasing projects that explore culture and heritage through the eyes and ears of young people.
A number of museums are now using imagineear’s mediaPacker and audioPorter systems for education and outreach work, as young people are able to create content, upload, edit and make changes all without any specialist programming skills – meaning their creativity can really take over.
In one project, Chantal Russell, a Youth Ambassador for Devon Museums, partnered with Dartmouth museum, Dartmouth Academy and Dartmouth Youth Centre to create an interactive audio trail around the town on the life of celebrated 18th century entrepreneur William Cumming Henley.
She commented:
The imagineear devices are really easy to use, with very straight-forward instructions. Despite their simplicity they are very versatile and provide many options for the user. Their appearance is also very attractive: they look very smart and professional.
You can follow the progress of the Young Interpretation project through our project blog at www.younginterpretation.com
Together with RedFront the project offers specialist resources, training, technology and support for museums, galleries, schools, heritage sites and youth groups that want to give their young people a voice.

imagineear technology removes the barriers for museums and galleries as they create or update audio tours and multimedia guides themselves. Now imagineear has developed a financing option to remove that final barrier – capital expense.
Without the burden of capital investment or technical expertise, but based on a simple monthly subscription - including training and support - in2Handheld is opening up multimedia and handheld guides to organisations of all sizes for the first time.
Too often, a large upfront cost and the cost of changing the content stand in the way of building a great multimedia tour. in2Handheld changes that. You can find out more on our in2handheld package here.
Andrew Nugee, imagineear CEO, commented:
in2handheld represents a significant step in our efforts to ensure that the benefits of mobile interpretation are spread more widely – with benefits for museums and visitors. For our part we look forward to supporting a whole range of new museums, galleries and heritage sites as they introduce in2handheld.

AudioCompass, a division of Ras Maestros Technology of Mumbai, and imagineear of London have worked together to deliver the first ever audio visual guide to one of the wonders of the world: the Taj Mahal, on the mediaPacker™ platform.
For almost 400 years since Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built a mausoleum on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra in memory of his young wife Mumtaz Mahal, visitors have been fascinated and awed by the scale, the opulence and the sheer beauty of the Taj Mahal. From this March, the site is brought to sparking life as never before with a personal guided multimedia tour available at the site itself.
AudioCompass, a leading Indian tourism and cultural interpretation services provider, has worked with the Archaeological Survey of India, script-writers, translators, studios and producers, together with their experienced London partner imagineear, to create the perfect visitor experience. imagineear’s producers worked to polish the script, and AudioCompass engineers helped optimise the latest imagineear technology platform, the mediaPacker™, in order to ensure a seamless tour delivery in English, French and Hindi.
Gautam Shewakramani, CEO of AudioCompass, said:
imagineear’s deep experience has resulted in our relationship growing from one of technology partners, with their mediaPacker™ platform, to advisors for our script, site operations, and the development of our in-house technology platform, the AudioCompass MX1. We are thrilled to collaborate with them as we shape the Indian interpretation industry.
Andrew Nugée of imagineear added:
We are delighted to partner with AudioCompass on this project at one of the world’s most recognisable tourist destinations, and one of our most enduring love stories. AudioCompass has brought energy and dynamism to the market in India, and we look forward to working more closely together within the region and elsewhere.
AudioCompass is a division of Ras Maestros Technology Pvt Ltd. We are a full service cultural interpretation provider, offering audio and multimedia tour design and development, technology support, and site operations. Queen Beatrix opened the exhibition Lucas van Leyden and the Renaissance in Museum De Lakenhal, in Leiden.
In close collaboration with the museum, imagineear has produced the audio-visual tour in Dutch and English for the exhibition, painting the even greater picture behind the exceptional artwork on display.
In addition, imagineear worked together with the Egidius Quartet, who started the extraordinary project, The Leiden Choir Books, recording the music from the 6 famous and unique 16th Century Choir Books of the Leiden Pieterskerk. The music is a beautiful and very relevant choice to accompany the narration and some pieces can be heard in full.
Christiaan Vogelaar, chief curator and compiler of the exhibition Lucas van Leyden and the Renaissance commented:
The cooperation with imagineear has been most inspiring and fruitful on both a personal and a professional level . The tour accompanying the exhibition Lucas van Leyden and the Renaissance does not only contain the essential information needed, but also explores additional means of reaching out to a broader public by using supplementary images and music. The result is inspiring and to my opinion the ideal way of combining education and entertainment. Many colleagues visiting the exhibition were interested in the tour and have asked about our experiences to which I could only answer in the most positive way.
Leiden, March 2011.
Commenting further:
We have chosen to work with imagineear because of their experience and knowledge of audio guides and the museum world, as well as for their competitive pricing. I look forward to seeing and hearing the result!
Christiaan Vogelaar, curator of the exhibition and Chief Curator of Old Masters.

With the launch of the Singapore Biennale tour, imagineear now offers cultural apps for the two fastest growing download platforms, and 40% of all smartphones globally.
The market for smartphone apps continues to grow and fragment, and apps are an essential component of the interpretation strategy for cultural sites. Together with our partners Tristan Interactive, imagineear is developing apps across a broad front of major operating systems and form factors, to ensure that outstanding cultural content is as widely accessible as possible.
This week saw the distribution of our first Android app, which was developed for the 2011 Singapore Biennale – a citywide contemporary art exhibition, featuring 66 artists from all over the world showcasing their work in a variety of venues. Named “Open House” and focused in the world's busiest port and multicultural city, the Biennale brings together artworks that offer multiple perspectives and myriad creative approaches to questions of how we move across borders, see other points of view, and form connections with others.
Andrew Nugée, Chief Executive, commented:
Our philosophy at imagineear is to build content once, and distribute across multiple platforms as widely and seamlessly as possible. Smartphone apps are not a sufficient channel, but offering apps together with our existing mediaPacker™ multimedia rental players, we are able to appeal to complementary visitor groups and ensure maximum takeup for our clients.

The Devon Museum has produced a guide to the town on the mediapacker player - produced in partnership with local school children.
The guide features multiple stops both in the Museum and across the town telling the story of Dartmouth through the life of one man. The guide was researched, written, recorded and even uploaded by the local school, in partnership with the museum.
Dartmouth Museum commented;
We chose imagineear because they offer devices ready to stand the impact of a tour based in the town as well as the museum; they are ruggedised and resilient.
The project required durable and versatile audio visual devices but also a straight-forward system for creating tours that didn’t require technical training, so the young people’s creativity could really shine.
The project at Dartmouth Museum was produced in partnership with Red Front – the Creative and Cultural Engagement Consultancy.

The Bill Douglas Centre were already uploading podcasts and interacting with visitors via social media, however they saw a demand from people who wanted to pick up guides and listen onsite.
Beginning with commentaries on specific objects, the Centre has now expanded their use of the guides to include an interview with the principle donor.
As the Bill Douglas team put it;
The great thing is we never have to feel like the tour is finished. As the Bill Douglas Centre changes - so can the tour and it’s as easy as USB stick when we want to upload more.

imagineear Singapore is proud to announce a partnership with the Singapore National Heritage Board to provide the official audio-visual guide for the 3rd Singapore Biennale. The partnership covers all the major art works on show, and on rental devices as well as smartphones powered by Apple and Android.
Featuring 60 artists from 30 countries, the third Singapore Biennale, titled 'Open House', will be open to the public from 13 March to 15 May 2011. Over half of the artists are creating new commissions or premiering new works. 'Open House' is presented across four exhibition venues, each with its own particular character, which draw upon emblematic spaces in Singapore: Housing Development Board flats (Singapore Art Museum and 8Q), shopping centres and night markets (National Museum of Singapore), and international air and sea ports (Old Kallang Airport). Major art works at Marina Bay will amplify individual experience in the city.
The Biennale is Singapore’s largest contemporary visual arts event organised by the Singapore Art Museum in 2011. It is a prestigious national initiative where Singapore presents the latest developments in contemporary visual culture and artists of diverse nationalities from across the world, attracting some half a million local and international visitors.
Tan Boon Hui, Director, Singapore Art Museum commented:
As the leading international contemporary art event in Southeast Asia, one of the most distinctive aspects of the Biennale is in the incorporation of art projects that transform our experiences of familiar places and landmarks in Singapore. Helping us see the world in a different way is one of the most important reasons why contemporary art platforms like the Biennale are important for people to learn more about contemporary art practice and about Singapore.
Andrew Jeffery, Director of imagineear Singapore added:
We are delighted to help the Singapore Art Museum realise its ambitious goals for the biennale. It is the first time the visitor will have been offered a genuine choice between a pre-loaded rental player and an app download – from iTunes and Android – to keep, and we look forward to supporting this initiative.
The Singapore Biennale was established in 2006 as the country’s premier platform for international dialogue in contemporary art. It places Singapore’s artists within a global context, and fosters productive collaborations with the international arts community. In this way, the Biennale provides new opportunities for local visual artists, arts organisations and businesses, and cultivates deeper public engagement with the arts. It complements achievements in other areas of arts and culture, collectively enhancing Singapore’s international profile as a vibrant city in which to live, work and play. Singapore Biennale 2011 is organised by the Singapore Art Museum of the National Heritage Board, and supported by the National Arts Council, which first inaugurated the Biennale in 2006 and was also the organizer for the 2008 edition.
The mission of the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is to document, interpret and promote the contemporary art practices of Singapore, Southeast Asian, and the wider Asian region. Opened in January 1996 as a museum under the National Heritage Board of Singapore, SAM has amassed one of the world’s largest public collections of Southeast Asian artworks. Since 2009, SAM has focused its programming and collections development initiatives around contemporary Southeast Asian art and art practices. SAM is also the organiser of the Singapore Biennale 2011.

imagineear launches the Amsterdam City Walking Tour, the first in a series of CultureKey city tours targeted at the cultural tourist of the 21st century.
Built specifically for cultural visitors, this CultureKey city tour app gives you an insider’s guide to the remarkable city of Amsterdam. Whilst giving you the chance to experience the charm of the city at your own pace, it is bursting full of images, audio, text, useful links, and a handy interactive map that can be used even when you’re offline – which for the user means costly roaming charges can be avoided. And better yet – the app is free for download from the iTunes store.
The launch of our City Walk of Amsterdam is, we hope, the start of many-a-happy journey for visitors to the city. For imagineear it also marks another step forward in our own journey as we use mobile apps to create remarkable experiences for cultural travellers all over the world
Andrew Nugee, CEO.
The tour delivers a fun package of local insight together with contemporary and historical links, and takes you to both mainstream and less obvious sites alike ranging from Amsterdam’s Béguinage, to the Amsterdam Historical Museum, the Royal Palace, Amstel Dam, the Old Church, the Red Light District, Our Lord in the Attic Museum, the East India Company, Rembrandt House Museum, the Portuguese Synagogue, and Anne Frank House among others.
The design of the app itself includes features such as interactive maps with location-based navigation; the ability to access content directly (via the keypad) or by distance from your current location. Images, audio and text complement each point of interest, useful web links, further sources and additional information for each point of interest.
Otto Gumaelius, Mobile Media Manager commented:
the app is a way for tourists and locals of Amsterdam alike to take in the city in a relaxed way, and through a medium that you would carry around with you anyway. We look forward to the growth of our exciting range of cultural apps in destinations across the world.

In co-operation with the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Museum De Lakenhal will present the major upcoming exhibition, Lucas van Leyden and the Renaissance. imagineear has been engaged to produce an audio visual tour for the exhibition, which will assist in painting the even greater picture behind the exceptional artwork on display.
For the first time ever, the main Renaissance artist of Northern Netherlands will be showcased against a background of his contemporaries. The 250 works of an exceptionally high standard belong to the collections of both Dutch and international museums, including the Louvre, the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum. Most of the artworks will be on display in the Netherlands for the first time, and this exhibition fits well into De Lakenhal’s policy to offer high-quality exhibitions of national or international significance based on sources from Leiden.
Museum de Lakenhal has chosen imagineear as their audio tour provider for the exhibition. The audio guide will be offered free of charge to all visitors, and will form part of the overall exhibition experience. Languages on offer will be Dutch and English, and the tour will cover the majority of works on display. Whilst all aspects of the collection will be highlighted, there will be opportunities to access further information in greater detail through various 2nd levels on the audio guide.
To strengthen the audio tour, images of works that have not been included in the exhibition, alongside details that are otherwise not easy to find, will be presented in the audio tour, thus deepening the visitors’ understanding of the various stories and techniques. The collaboration with the Egidius Quartet, who are currently recording all the choir music from the famous and unique Leiden Choir Books of the 16th Century Pieterskerk, will result in the books going on display, and open on relevant pages. The audio tour will feature recordings from the productions - a fitting and highly relevant choice to accompany the narration.
We have chosen to work with imagineear because of their experience and knowledge of audio guides and the museum world, as well as for their competitive pricing. I look forward to seeing and hearing the result!

Dr Johnson's House, where Samuel Johnson lived while writing his eponymous Dictionary of the English Language, has chosen imagineear to present the life of Samuel Johnson, using the house as a backdrop to illustrate the life of this colourful and influential figure.
Tucked away in the heart of the City of London lies the house where, between 1748 and 1759, Samuel Johnson lived and worked, and contributed to the written history of the English language.
Born in 1709, Doctor Johnson only moved to London in 1737. In London, he was commissioned by a syndicate of booksellers to write the first comprehensive Dictionary of the English language. And it was during this time that he rented the house at 17 Gough Square, where together with his 6 amanuenses he began working on, and completed, the Dictionary of the English language – which was published in 1755.
imagineear is privileged to help this historic house tell the story of the life of Samuel Johnson and give an understanding of the history of the house. We launched this innovative audiovisual tour on the mediaPacker™ to give visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the context of Samuel Johnson’s London, and to see the faces and places that framed his life. As Andrew Nugée, Chief Executive, noted,
It is no exaggeration to say that, after Shakespeare, few people have had such an impact on the English language as Samuel Johnson. We are delighted to be part of this important initiative to bring his life and work to a wider audience.

Geneva Tourism & Conventions has teamed up with imagineear to produce two multilingual audio tours to help you stroll through 2,000 years’ worth of history.
From January 2011, imagineear’s audioPorter™ will be available to guide visitors to Geneva on two magnificent tours of the city. The first tour is of Geneva’s Old Town, a walking tour that leads you through a rich historic and cultural past. The second guides you to the many international organisations that enrich the city, and explains their origins, purpose, focus and value.
Available in French, English and German, Geneva Tourism is delighted with the tourist feedback it has received thus far:
At a price of 18CHF per unit it is great value to enjoy a day through Geneva.
The audioPorter™ is easy to use, and better yet, since it can be used as an MP3 player we can download all the music we want once we plug it on our computer.
The fact that we can have two headsets makes it even cheaper as two persons can use it at the same time.
The town map was clear and we didn’t get lost.
In addition to great feedback from the tourists, the staff are enjoying working with the audioPorter™ adding:
We don’t need to spend hours explaining how to use the audioPorter™ which makes it easier to manage the long queues we sometimes have - and its package is easy to store, which is important as we don’t have a lot of spare space.
Geneva Tourism & Convention Bureau wishes you an enjoyable walk.

imagineear announces the successful launch of the most innovative audio visual player specifically designed for mobile interpretation.
The mediaPacker™ changes the interpretation game. Editorial control is handed back to the client, thanks to its powerful and flexible firmware, which requires no training to use. In addition to regular audio tour functionality, the mediaPacker’s slideshows, screen hotspots, multilingual video-syncing and smartphone content-conversion are all a snap. The player is a joy to programme, to maintain and to use – and is lighter on the budget as well.
The mediaPacker™ forms the core of the suite of technology products and services that imagineear has redesigned to optimise onsite mobile interpretation, and it joins the APpro™, the smartCharger™ and both behind-the-head and over-the-head headphones.
As Eric van der Hoeven, Technical Director, observed:
After 15 years in the industry, we have seen most of the issues that slow client sites down or rack up their costs. With our flexible, modular suite of technologies, and our strong client-value orientation, we have managed to design many of these critical issues out of the platform.

imagineear extends the reach of its innovative audio solutions to Asia, via a partnership with Andrew Jeffery and Steven Hopkinson in Singapore
imagineear welcomes Andrew Jeffery and Steven Hopkinson to the team. Based in Singapore, Andrew and Steven bring to imagineear deep experience of business building and creative media projects, as well as a base in one of the most dynamic markets in Asia.
Andrew was born and educated in the UK, but emigrated to Australia in the mid-80s, where he began his career in magazine publishing, successfully launching Men's Health, backed by Murdoch Magazines. He worked in Hong Kong with WPP before running the South East Asian sales operations of Getty Images, and launching several ventures in audio and mobile media.
A native Australian, Steven has almost two decades of experience working in Asia, starting with PhotoDisc in the early 90’s before assuming the position of VP Asia/Pac for Getty Images. After nearly 10 years with Getty Images Steve joined Liberty Media's DMX Music brand as VP Asia/Pac before returning to the visual content industry as head of Asia, India and the Middle East for the Photolibrary Group.
Andrew Nugée, imagineear CEO, commented:
I am delighted to welcome Andrew and Steve to the team. They complement our existing business by bringing imagineear tremendous experience in digital media, and growing businesses across the Asia Pacific region. I have known of and admired them both from the digital imaging industry; and I am glad to working with them now, rather than as adversaries!
Andrew and Steve agreed, commenting:
This is a tremendous time to be forging ahead in Asia. Singapore provides a fabulous hub for both digital content development, and expansion into the rest of Asia. Teaming with imagineear allows us to build the business with world class leaders in this space.

imagineear has been engaged to produce an Audio Walking Tour for the Museumkwartier, which will lead you past historical houses, the main squares, the castle, the gardens and will tell the story of the development of Zeist and the impact the arrival of the Hernhutter Moravian Church community has had and still has today.
Zeist is developing its cultural heritage in a contemporary way, using old and new media to create a virtual and physical museum. With the founding of the Museumkwartier Slot Zeist, the town council has created a vehicle to tell the engaging story of Zeist.
Two very inspiring and driven advisors in the field of cultural heritage, drs. Barbara Laan and drs. Patricia Honig, have been working on the Museumkwartier project since 2009. The Walking Tour is part of the bigger picture, to provide information on the unique heritage sites in Zeist. In the spring of 2011 a series of information panels will be placed near the monuments and archaeological sites in Zeist. The panels will be linked by a cycling and walking tour. They not only give an impression in text and images, but QR-codes make it possible to hear the audio fragments on your smartphone as well.
I enjoyed working with Eleonore Heijboer again (we first worked together in 2000 to create the still successful audio tour for an avant-garde house in Rotterdam) and was very pleased about the serious content, the choice of music, the voice-over and the interviews
Commented drs. Barbara Laan, expert on historic interiors who was in charge of the project.
For more information about the Museumkwartier Slot Zeist, feel free to contact Mrs Barbara Laan at blaan@xs4all.nl

The 15th Century Grote Kerk in the Hague, built as a place of worship, and now principally an exhibition space, has chosen the imagineear APpro™ system as their audio platform.
Grote Kerk in The Hague, Netherlands and Histofun have chosen imagineear and the APpro™ system for their brand new audio tour of the Grote Kerk. The tour covers the history and architecture of this great 15th Century Gothic church. Eleonore Heijboer, Founder and Content Director of imagineear, based in Amsterdam, commented:
The APpro™ system is an outstanding tool for this magnificent building, an important landmark in the Hague. We are delighted to be working with the Grote Kerk and Histofun on this project.
