Newts!! Imagineear Amsterdam to Castle Cary, Somerset
The Newt Garden Museum, near Castle Cary in Somerset, will open to the public this autumn, with an app tour provided by an all Dutch collaboration including hardware and technology provision from Imagineear’s Amsterdam office for this heritage site.
The Newt is a country estate created in the 1680s as the Emily Estate. The Newt’s gardens surround a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion, previously the home of the Hobhouse family for two centuries, now refurbished by craftsmen and opened as a boutique hotel. The estate, privately owned by South African-born tycoon Koos Bekker and his wife Karen Roos, has been named for the 2,000 strong colony of newts that inhabit it and for whom wooden ladders have been provided in many of the gardens’ water features.
The gardens of The Newt are the centrepiece of the estate, shaped by traditions and ideas from past to present. The glasshouse planting, for example, will pay homage to Victorian horticulture collectors who quested far and wide for tropical and exotic specimens. The Garden Museum, located in the deer park, lays out the historical context of the gardens and its new glories.
The project management of the Garden Museum was undertaken by Dutch company Kossmann & de Jong, with other Dutch collaborators. Kloosterboer decorcreated the entire infrastructure and commissioned Imagineear’s Amsterdam office to supply our MPti™ touchscreen devices and our intelligent communications chip set to support IJSfontein’s tour app.
“Imagineear frequently works with single or multiple providers on projects to provide the best solutions for our mutual clients,” said Clare Cooper-Hammond, Imagineear’s MD for UK and Ireland. “Whether we lead on provision, or work with other companies to satisfy a need for the optimum outcome, we welcome the opportunity to work on all aspects of designing and providing for visitor attractions and experiences.”
