Monmouthshire County Council

Imagineear were chosen by Monmouthshire County Council and MonLife Heritage to create digital audio-based tours across three important Welsh heritage sites: Caldicot Castle, Monmouth Shire Hall and Tintern Old Station.

Brief

MonLife Heritage, a part of Monmouthshire Council, were looking for their digital tours to be delivered via web app to visitors’ own smartphones using live GPS orientation. Engagement and participation from the local community, across the three sites, was a core
requirement of the project. MonLife also sought to deliver Welsh language tour options for Welsh speaking visitors.

Solution

Imagineear devised a social media campaign calling on members of the public to share their personal history and memories of the sites to be featured as part of the content. Following extensive social media platform research, Imagineear interviewed community members to
capture their contemporary and relatable stories. In addition, re-imagined stories from historical characters such as Eleonore and Mary de Bohun at Caldicot Castle and the famous Chartist, John Frost, formed part of the historical framework at each site.
Imagineear also developed short mindfulness walks at Caldicot Castle and Tintern Old Station for visitors to benefit from the beautiful green spaces surrounding these sites. Imagineear also provided translation and audio production services to deliver Welsh language tour options at each of the three sites. Well-known local voice talents Richard Harrington, Elen Rhys and Steffan Cennydd were used in the Welsh language recordings.

“This is an app full of interesting and well researched historical information which will appeal to many people from Monmouthsire and beyond” - Peter Hanks, local resident
