Imagineear creates innovative mobile app and new content for English Heritage’s iconic heritage site, Stonehenge

Imagineear was awarded a prestigious public tender by English Heritage, to augment the visitor experience with the creation of  a new digital mobile app for one of the UK’s most visited tourist attractions, Stonehenge.  An iconic prehistoric monument, Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting 1.6 million visitors from around the world every year.

English Heritage sought to work with a dynamic and innovative agency to help them achieve their strategic objective: to transition from a traditional on-site audio tour to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model for their flagship site.  They were looking to help visitors understand and enjoy Stonehenge as they move around the site – from the exhibition spaces and Neolithic  houses, through the landscape and to the stone circle, interacting with interpretive content as they explore.

In partnership with the English Heritage team, Imagineear also produced new audiovisual content in 12 languages which feature in the app.

Imagineear designed and developed an interactive navigational app, that will appeal to Stonehenge’s diverse range of visitors and provide an easy means of accessing mobile multimedia content via the innovative use of QR codes, location-based triggering and interactive maps.

Imagineear also assisted English Heritage in an advisory capacity, drawing from its extensive experience of working with key heritage, cultural and sports venues worldwide.  Working in close partnership, Imagineear evaluated a variety of potential user journeys and tour types, taking into account the seasonality of Stonehenge as an outdoor attraction and the operational challenges posed by exposure to different weather conditions.

In addition to the design and build of the bespoke English Heritage app, Imagineear provided a full programme of iterative user testing and evaluation.
