R&D Technician, Amsterdam

The role of the R&D Technician is to work closely with Imagineear’s Tech Director to develop and optimise creative and innovative hard- and software solutions. You will join Imagineear’s R&D team in Amsterdam, and will work flexibly and independently to the Tech Director, helping him with all manner of tasks from development of the base code, to testing, bug-fixing and optimising apps and devices.

You may be helping to assemble, dismantle, check or maintain equipment onsite at museum and visitor attractions in the Netherlands or further afield. Location

This role is based in our Amsterdam office in Amsterdam Zuid (Buitenveldert). It may include visits to Imagineear client sites to help develop an understanding of our unique product solution, as well as, in due course, to our manufacturers and assemblers in Europe and Asia. There will also be some flexibility to work from home when scheduled and by prior agreement.

Core Office Responsibilities

  • First-pass functionality research and app development
  • App-testing from concept to production
  • Network topology and optimisation
  • High-level network and comms protocol trouble-shooting
  • Work under direction from the Tech Director with design and manufacturing partners

Core Site Responsibilities

  • Installation and/or dismantling at customer sites
  • Providing technical support and service to and/or at the client’s premises as required
  • Hand-holding clients, on-site simple repairs and general checking of headsets and devices
  • Ad-hoc project and client support

Team Responsibilities

  • Play a full part in the team to help address the needs of the business as they arise
  • Offer constructive solutions to problems and issues, or opportunities, as they arise
  • Undertake additional relevant background research tasks when requested to do so
  • Undertake any other tasks requested of you by the Tech Director from time to time

The candidate

  • You will be an engineer with hands-on experience in addition to theoretical understanding
  • We are a small team, and you will be able to bounce ideas off other team members to provide solutions
  • Management experience is not a requirement of the role

Required skills and experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • A proactive problem-solving approach to hard- and software development
  • The right to work and live within the European Union
  • Good working knowledge of Android
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, ie simple networking with desktops and laptops

Desirable personal qualities

  • Fluent Dutch is highly desirable – the Amsterdam office works principally in Dutch
  • Mandarin an advantage – we manufacture throughout China
  • Mechatronics, ie a mix of mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Experience of the service/maintenance industry
  • Great working attitude, demonstrated flexibility
  • Good communication skills and collaborative working style
