Imagineear collaborate with The Wallace Collection for the second time creating an audioguide to Frans Hals: The Male Portrait
Following their hugely successful collaboration creating a multimedia guide for Forgotten Masters: Indian Painting for the East India Company, an exhibition which saw record footfall for The Wallace Collection, Imagineear have been chosen once again, this time to produce a self-guided audio tour for the much-anticipated exhibition, Frans Hals: The Male Portrait.
The script, written by Imagineear’s long-term partner, Mari Griffiths, and read by Exhibition Curator, Lelia Packer, includes multiple interviews looking at 13 of the infamous Frans Hals male portraits – with the Wallace Collection’s own The Laughing Cavalier at centre stage. The audioguide leads visitors around the main space in which the paintings hang, as if they are guests at a round table.
Imagineear had the privilege of recording the primary interview of the tour in which celebrated artist, Grayson Perry discusses the portraits with Xavier Bray, Director of The Wallace Collection.
Perry explores the theme of masculinity within Hals’ portraits, discussing the role of dress and costume during the Dutch Golden Age.
Further interviews, conducted with experts, aim to deepen the visitors’ understanding of each portrait within the context of 17th Century Europe, covering important themes including the Slave Trade and the role of women.
“We are thrilled that The Wallace Collection chose to work with Imagineear for a second time, and for such a prominent and highly anticipated exhibition” said Clare-Cooper Hammond, Managing Director, Imagineear UK & Ireland. “Our expertise producing engaging scripts, our experience in sound recording and editing and our unrivalled audio tour experience meant that we were able to offer The Wallace Collection a complete production, from start to finish. The result is an exciting, humorous, educational and, above all, engaging audio accompaniment to this unique exhibition’.
The Wallace Collection said, “We have enjoyed working with Imagineear on two successful exhibitions, Forgotten Masters: Indian Painting for the East India Company and Frans Hals: The Male Portrait. Both multimedia guides have been extremely popular with visitors and the experience Imagineear have helped us to create for Frans Hals: The Male Portrait, with layered narratives and voices, has added real depth to the exhibition.”
